HESSTON'S DOWNTOWN PARK & PLAZA
Located on the SE corner of N. Main & E. Amos streets: originally a grain mill, and most recently used for pallet recycling, this now empty lot will be transformed into a new Downtown Park & Plaza.
The new Downtown Park & Plaza will serve the Hesston Community with a green space, plaza, stage, and plenty of space for gathering with friends and neighbors. The park will become a beautiful extension of downtown Hesston joining the retail district to the south with the Public Library and other businesses to the North.
PROJECT INSPIRATION
WYATT EARP PARK | LAMAR, MO
Lamar, MO is a small industrial town much like Hesston with an historic downtown. Unfortunately over time old buildings often create not only eyesores, but public safety hazards.
When a dilapidated corner building adjacent to their town square needed to be demolished - they replaced it with this unique gathering area including greenspace, a plaza, gazebo, stage, and plenty of market space.
In the same way, The Kansas Horizon Foundation is dedicated to transforming the property at N. Main and E. Amos into a vibrant gathering space in order to revitalize this corner of the Hesston community.

WHAT WILL BE INCLUDED IN THE PARK?
The concept pictured includes a large green space with covered shelter, a raised plaza area which includes a grandstand stage and public restrooms. The concept drawing also inclues spaces surrounding the park for food trucks and vendor tents.
WHO HAS BEEN CONTRACTED TO BUILD THE PARK?
Thepark design is still in development stages and no one has been contracted to complete the work yet.
DO WE NEED ANOTHER PARK IN HESSTON?
The land purchased was originally intened to build a grocery store, but as those plans fell through, the Kansas Horizon Foundation committed to turning this piece of property into a beautiful ammentity for the benefit of the City and all our Neighbors in Hesston.
DO YOU EXPECT OTHER ORGANIZATIONS LIKE THE LIBRARY OR FARMER’S MARKET TO BE ABLE UTILIZE THE NEW PARK?
Absolutely! We will work with a multitude of community partners in order to design this space to benefit Hesston Residents, Organizations, Businesses, and Tourism.
WHAT IS THE TIMELINE FOR COMPLETION OF THE NEW PARK?
The Kansas Horizon Foundation is eager to begin the work needed for this project to be a success. As of now, we do not have a projected completion date. We are currently working on budget, logistics, and gaining community support.
